Google Cloud Platform Console Home Screen

The first stop in the Google cloud platform console walkthrough is the Home Screen. After you log in, you’ll get redirected to this handy page. There are a few quick view resources like active resources and billing information.

Dashboard View

Next to the Home tab is the Dashboard tab. This page shows details like the active project that the user is working on, and also updates on various parameters like APIs, resources, and, billing.

Activity and Recommendation Tabs

The next two tabs are “Activity” and “Recommendations”. Our best Google cloud platform advice is to check these tabs often.

The Activity tab shows the history of all actions performed in the console. Then, Google tailors advice based on your workflow in the Recommendations tab.

Navigation and Services Menu

At the far right of the blue bar at the top, you should see a set of 3 horizontal white lines. Clicking on this icon drops down the navigation menu with some handy tools and features.

Compute Engine

This section is where you can create and manage a virtual machine to run programs. Companies who use GCP DevOps will want to get familiar with this section. Use this feature to create your programs at the speed of light with Google’s massive cloud.

Storage Options

Another popular tool in the GCP console is cloud storage. If you always seem to run out of data storage, take advantage of limitless data storage in the Google cloud.

Billing Dashboard

The last section on this Google cloud platform guide is the billing dashboard. This is where you can see a breakdown of all your Google cloud charges and any billing history. You can also change your method of payment on this page.
